Well Done!

To all the gymnasts who took part in the County Championships on 16 July 2005:
Emily Mole (1st); Abi Walker (3rd) in FIG; Melissa Lewis (2nd), Hannah Elton (3rd) in Level 4 out of age; Lauren Weston (2nd) Tori Pybus (3rd) in Level 5 in age; Emma Elton (1st), Rosie Crumpton (2nd) in Level 4 in age;

British Gymnastics Medical Scheme !

This scheme is open to all gymnasts and coaches, enabling them access to outpatient appointments / investigations etc by orthopaedic specialists at the Coventry and Warwick Hospital. The scheme costs £40 for the year. If you would like an application form, please ask Alison for a copy which you can then submit direct to British Gymnastics. Forms have to be submitted by the end of July to be able to join the scheme – it is not possible to join after an injury has happened.

Congratulations

Congratulations!

To Alex Miller: who has recently announced that she is expecting her first baby in early 2006 – the next generation of a family who have been so successful gymnasts is on its way!

To Alan and Alison: who are to become a grandparents in February 2006 – having been a ‘gymnastics granny’ for many years (coaching the children of people who she coached many years ago), Al is now very excited at the prospect of finally being a ‘proper’ granny!

Calling all Volunteers !

As most of you will know, Birmingham Flames is run on an entirely voluntary basis. All coaches and ‘parent-supporters’ give their time free of charge, which helps us to keep our costs to a minimum. All fees that are collected from gymnasts are directed back into the running of the Club – either paying for hire of the gym, coach education or other club expenses.

We would now like to work towards ‘GymMark’ which is the accreditation scheme for all British Gymnastics registered clubs. This will involve lots of hard work if it is to go ahead – including appointment to volunteer posts, policy development etc. We can only do this if there is real support from parents – to help do all of these jobs. Most coaches work during the day in addition to coaching gymnastics in the evening (and all weekend!) and therefore don’t have time to take on more responsibilities.

Accreditation will be the BGA stamp of approval that the Club is as good as we all know it is!

Are you interested in joining a group to help us to do this?

If you are, please let Alison know by the end of July. Your support will be very much appreciated

If you wish to discuss your childs progress, please talk with the gymnasts own coach in the first instance. Please do this at the start or end of any session. Thanks.

July Training Session Times

Please note that on Tuesday 19th July there is electrical work that needs to be done in the Slater Hall so the training Session for that evening will be cancelled. .
